Durban rapper, Robin Thirdfloor has announced that he will be dropping the remix for his 2019 single, Gibela. The remix features East Rand artists ASAP Shembe and Lali Boy.
Gibela is taken from Robin Thirdfloor’s neo-Kwaito and self-aware 12 track mixtape, Zithande (A Story About Self-Care). According to Robin this song was originally the intro of the mixtape until Robin recorded Self-Care and felt like it needed to be on the mixtape too.
The sound on Gibela is a characteristic of Robin Thirdfloor’s overall music style. He has always been on the fringes of popular music ensuring that he creates an unforgettable take on Hip Hop music. The effortless fusion of Kwaito bass’s and EDM synths with overall funky grooves is just trendy and fresh.
It makes sense that he features both ASAP Shembe and Lali Boy. Both of these artists have long experimented with the South African sounds generating a feeling for the music rather than just a genre. And since these artists are accustomed to rapping in their native tongues, the remix should be a cool showing of using their native languages to create worlds.
The remix is expected to drop Friday the 10th of April and it should be a heater for sure.
While we wait, check out the music video for Gibela below!
