Today we’ll see the official music video premier of RnB sensation Nanette – “Vent” on MTV Base Spanking New Premier!
The RNB singer is originally from the Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Other than being a free spirit, Nanette Mbili is a student at the University of Witwatersrand. The 20 year old, has a distinct voice that is like no other that we’ve heard. You can tell through music that what she sings about comes a genuine place.
This January, the musician released her debut album titled “Bad Weather”. She described it to be a wholesome and a “tumultuous journey” album that evokes all sorts of emotions. From crying, anger to wanting to dance. The only expectation she expects from listeners is for the album to be one that has longevity. “I wanted the album to feel like an account of me in my room with my blinds down, and it’s pouring, and the thunder’s crashing against the window” she tells Apple Music.
On Vent , she talks about the current state of the dating pool and how everything is sexualised . She continues to tell Apple Music that her anger came from feeling like she wasn’t getting the queen treatment she deserves. At the end of the of the writing process, the singer was on the fence about signing to a label or not after. Nanette ends the song with a prayer about stepping into a journey of the unknown. Will it shrivel her up or will she “fade away” as she says in the song.
Apart from her own music you’ve probably heard her captivating voice on Better Without U by Thando, Handmedowns by Lordkez, Rendevous by Una Rams just to name a few.
