Nasty C’s videos for Good Girls and Don’t Do It have been disqualified from the SAMA’s as they did not meet the criteria for Best Music Video Category. This announcement was made late Tuesday night by the organizers of the South African Music Awards via Twitter with a series of tweets explaining the reason for their decision.
“Our investigations have revealed that the videos were submitted for entry on 24 January 2017. We have determined that the videos were not flighted before the closing date of the entries of 31 January 2017 as required by the SAMA rules. We have always trusted that music videos submitted for this category have been flighted by broadcasters during the specific entry period”, said the organizers.
They continued to say that they accept full responsibility for the mistake and they will announce the replacement nominees soon. Nhlanhla Sibisi, CEO of RiSA commented: “The SAMA prides itself with a rich history of accountability and credibility. Our legitimacy is in our checks and balances including public involvement and how swiftly we act”.
This brings down Nasty C’s number of nominations from seven to five with some nominations including Best Artist and Best Rap Album, to name few. Kwesta is now leading the pack with six nominations, which is the most a rap artist has received at the SAMA’s.
