Following the Nedbank Cup round of 32 draw that took place on Monday, 14 January 2013, the bank is breaking new ground in South African football with the introduction of its Ke Yona Team Search. This year, Nedbank is embarking on a nationwide search for a football team consisting of 18 players. “We’re searching for South Africa’s hidden football talent, to form the Ke Yona Team”, said Thulani Sibeko; Group Executive for Marketing, Communication and Corporate Affairs at Nedbank. The Ke Yona team will comprise of everyday South African’s who’ll get trained by professional coaches to take on the winners of the 2013 Nedbank Cup.
Drawing inspiration from talent search franchise giants such as Idols, MasterChef and X-Factor, Nedbank hopes the Ke Yona team search will become a soccer phenomenon for those aspiring to become South Africa’s next big football stars. The Ke Yona Team will be selected and trained by soccer legend Screamer Tshabalala and many more notable legends of the game. Once selected, the football hopefuls will be relocated to Johannesburg where they will undergo training under the hands of the football legends.

It doesn’t matter where you come from, what matters the most is where you’re headed”, added Mr. Sibeko. The Ke Yona team search will be broadcast every Saturday as part of a 30 minute football show on SABC 1.
