He has worked and featured with acts like Gemini Major, Patoranking, Tellaman, SimmySimmyNya, Black Slim and Phresh Clique to name a few. He was also a part of Fife Avenue, a collective that has been turning the tide within the perceived limitations of the Cape Town music scene. They have worked with renowned local and international acts like Mos Def, AKA, Nasty C, Gemini Major and Youngsta CPT among many others.
Owethu recently dropped a 3 track EP titled Strawberry Moon. The offering is a beautiful balance of sounds and mixes Trap Soul, R&B and hip hop elements. Owethu’s voice is smooth and serene and it matches the subject matter of the music.
“This EP was meant for expression more than anything else. It speaks about matters that aren’t spoken about or are looked over in the local music industry,” he writes. He continues to write that plenty of people are suffering from depression but will never be able to speak up because of the society we live in.
The EP also delves into themes of relationships and trust but also finding yourself amidst all of it. “My intentions ain’t to get it to the top at all. Just to be the voice for those who can’t speak up. Letting people know that they not alone and it’s okay to speak out and/or express,” he writes.
