Anatii drops second music video from his sophomore album, Iyeza
Anatii has impressed many this year when he dropped his highly musical and traditional album, Iyeza. And from that album he drops the visuals for Ntloni today. Ntloni is the 6th track off the album and it is noticeable more upbeat and fast paced that joints such as Wena and Ehlathini.
The visuals for Ntloni are refreshingly well shot. We love the fact that Anatii always takes a cinematic approach to his visuals and the fact that he directs them is telling. We saw this with the video for Thixo Onofefe which was a festival of occult and deep spiritual symbols. On Ntloni though, he takes the social commentary route.
The music video is about a young girl from rural Eastern Cape. She lives a simple life and has access to the most basic human necessities. She fetches water from the river, grows her own crops but she’s looking for a better life for herself.
So she moves to Johannesburg and meets a streetwise city girl who gives her a make-over. The make-over though leads to her forgetting who she is.
She ends up falling into the trap of doing whatever she can to maintain a lifestyle she has received from older men. The video ends with her in a club with a foreign man who claims he has a surprise for her. Is she lost to this life that she didn’t choose?
This is the blesser-blessee phenomenon which is so prevalent in today’s society and this music video elegantly gives commentary on it without being too preachy and judgemental. The video seems to end on a cliffhanger though and we can only hope that there is a pre-quel or sequel to it.
