The vibrant sounds of Cape Town come alive with “YES Y?A,” from Cape Town based producer, Shaney Jay and features acclaimed rapper YoungstaCPT. Shaney Jay, who has been biding his time, learning the ropes and crafting his sound, is thrilled to make his debut with this infectious track.
Shaney Jay reflects on his journey, stating, “This is an exciting time for me—I’ve always wanted to release my own single, but I knew I had to prove myself first and produce a lot of songs to get my name out.” SJ Collaborating with YoungstaCPT was a natural choice for Shaney Jay, who values the guidance and creativity the rapper brings to the studio. “It’s always great working with YoungstaCPT because he always knows which direction to take a record, and I’m always learning something new from every studio session with him.” SJ
The title, “YES Y?A,” is a nod to the popular Cape Town slang word “YesJa,” a versatile term used for agreement or greetings in everyday conversation. Shaney Jay explains, “Naming the song ‘YES Y?A’ was to have another anthem that was relatable to everyone in Cape Town.” The decision to release the single came after careful consideration of the right timing.
“I had the idea of releasing my own single for at least a year, but I knew the timing wasn’t right because of some of the projects I was busy with. Finally, I initiated it around August.” SJ Drawing inspiration from iconic Cape Town tracks like “Wes-kaap,” “Just Be Lekker,” and “The Cape Of Good Hope,” Shaney Jay aimed to create a song with an anthem-like quality and wanted to create another song that had that anthem feel to it.”
“YES Y?A” isn’t just a song—it’s an anthem and a certified banger. Shaney Jay’s hope is simple: “I just want people to enjoy this song as much as we enjoyed creating it and just turn up.I just wanna keep creating dope music and keep pushing boundaries and take what I’m doing to the next level and across the world.”
As for what’s next, Shaney Jay hints at a potential project on the horizon. “There might be a Shaney Jay project on the way soon; everyone just needs to watch this space.”
“YES Y?A” will be available on all major streaming platforms from January, 11 2024.
