Haem-O switches up his sound on his latest single titled I Remember
Rising rap star, Haemo-O is reflective in new single, I Remember, alongside DJ C-Live. I Remember sees Haem-O depart from his normal delivery and take up a style which is sonically reminiscent of Emtee.
I Remember, produced by the trusted KnifeBeatz, tells a story about two separate individuals in the same predicament. The sound has a soulful Afro-Hip Hop element to it featuring bright percussion and a moody baseline.
Producer KnifeBeatz says he was in a dark place when he put together this beat. He explains that working with brighter and more happy sounds was his way of pushing himself to positivity.
Haem-O’s delivery on I Remember compliments the song in that it is not complicated. He is not trying too hard to be lyrical but instead focuses on telling the stories.
Haem-O raps about a young boy who left home to pursue his dreams in the City of Johannesburg. He reminisces on the good times he had with his girlfriend back in the country and how much she believed in him and encouraged him to follow his dreams.
On the second verse he talks about a man that left his family and got swallowed up by the city life. All he managed to accomplish he spent on fast women and bottles in the club. He tried to replace his woman and failed. Embarrassment seems to have overcome him as it has gotten hard for him to call home after all the time he has been away and totally ignored his wife and kids.
Although the stories that Haem-O is telling in this are not terribly original nor is he telling them in a fresh way, we can appreciate the amount of work that went into being bold enough to go with this sound.
I Remember is available for streaming and purchase on all major digital stores.
