This past Friday, we headed to the Mariam Makeba street in Newtown to a restaurant/club called Shikisha to witness an album launch of one of South Africa’s finest rapper who goes by the name of Reason. Sizwe Moeketsi a.k.a Reason broke into the music industry early, Born in Tembisa and raised in Katlehong, Reason came up as a battle rapper competing in numerous competitions, both official and on the street corner. It wasn’t long before Johannesburg began to take notice and he began making appearances on YFM delivering breakfast jingles for DJ Fresh on “The Unrestricted Breakfast Show” in 2005. In 2011, this “Unsigned Hype” joined Motif Records, marking a new step in his career and will feature his first official label release in June 2012.
Audio 3D is Reason’s second studio album release and he has worked with a number of artists such as Loudo Liebenberg, KG from Morafe, Nombongo, Lebo Mochudi, Battlekat, Tumi from the volume and surprisingly enough Dineo Moeketsi from Channel O, I didn’t even know she could sing. This event was attended by a lot of hip hop heads and Shikisha was crawling with superstars, if you are a hip hop fan then you need to get your hands on this album copy. Tracks to look out for are “do it like I can” and “status update”.
