Nasty C is outchea working guys and we all know that he doesn’t mind dropping his track unmastered because he cannot hold onto music. After dropping Golden and NDA for what seems like every week of this month, the rapper closes off January with a new joint titled, Verge, featuring frequent collaborator and vocalist, Tellaman.
The two have incredible chemistry and seem to bring out the best in each other – 25, Overload and Come Over are bonified timeless hits. The two come together almost like night and day on this song; Tellaman and his velvet vocals soothe us after Nasty’s fire verses. The balance is a bit off but that is what makes this song charming. Plus, the beat is something else. It sounds like Trap but there is something futuristic and dark about it.
Nasty is not fake, there is a sincerity in his verses and how he comes across as a rapper. The joints he has been dropping this year are hella raw and a bit removed from the Nasty we were introduced to on L.A.M.E, Prize City and Bad Hair. There is growth and heavy potency in his verses now and we get to see a gradual maturation and refinement of his craft.
On this, he raps about how he has come to understand complete loyalty; “If you take a fall for your nigga there can’t be no rope. If that nigga can’t do the same then he can’t be your nigga, that can’t be your woe”. He also raps about grinding for his family and how he risked everything, even his good standing with his dad, for this rap thing. This is real talk.
He sounds a little like Kanye on this joint and it is clear that he’s cleaning up the closet. Fresh.
