So the song Family is banger; no lie! From the beat to the subject matter and how Riky Rick is praising his family for supporting his come-up and inspiring him to push harder, we are impressed! Family is bold and loud and the rapper declares that he made Kotini a proper noun.
He mentions that he hustles and goes through all that he does because of the famo bruv! Frank Casino reminds us that he is still on top of things and flexes with his flow on this. Cino is too cool, he cannot be hated on. The hook is an anthem for all those who are doing it for their boys and day ones.
The video for Family is just as epic as the song. When I say movie, I am not joking! The raw and uncut feel of the entire video makes it seem like it was shot years ago. That aged quality is the in thing now and the guys are killing it.
I dug the documentary and almost uncensored narrative that the direction of the visuals took. It somehow mirrors the subject matter of the song; a bold and unpretentious view of how Riky Riky stans for his family, his day ones. He mentions Okmalumkoolkat and the people he started out with which is a true testament to his loyalty.
Another thing that also stood out for me was the fashion! Fam!!! It’s lit. And this video is just a testament to the reason why Riky Rick became King Kotini: The Cotton Eater! Too fresh. Plus the locations they chose namely the Chinese restaurant and the street scenes gave this video that international and global appeal but with a distinctly and undeniable South African edge. That was a smart idea.
