Our previous cover star South African rapper and Boyz N Bucks member Riky Rick shot the cover of his upcoming debut album in Braamfontein this week, Riky, real name Rikhado Makhado has made more than a memorable impact on the local music industry in 2014 with the release of hit tracks such as “Amantombazane” which features fellow BoyzN’ member Okmalumkoolkat which was a such a success that it later led to the remix featuring a range of some of the hottest MC’s in the country such as Kwesta, Kid X, Okmalumkoolkat, Gingerbreadman, Nadia Nakai, Maggz and DJ Dimplez.
Riky then released the controversial hit song “vok julle naaires” which some radio stations and television networks banned coz of its strong contentious content and now he has the whole nation buzzing with his latest banger “boss zonke”.
“I’m an independent artist, in control of my own things. With all these other guys, who are signed to record labels, they are told how to behave” said Rikhado in our last cover interview we did with him, He also told our consulting editor Bernice Maune that He is a producer, “I make different beats. When I came back (to the industry) I chose not to make a specific sound.
I could make a house track tomorrow. That is really the freedom I’m looking for. I don’t want people to expect what the next track is going to sound like” which explains why he recently released a hardcore kwaito song with the Major League deejays called #slyzatsotsi.
The name of his album is “family values” which is why he is seen posing with his baby son Malik at the shoot, family means everything to Makhado and he says he tries to spend as much time as he can with his son if he is not working. Riky is currently shooting the Boss Zonke music video which is due to be out by the end of February 2015 and it is not yet clear when his first album will be dropping but zkhiphani will be the first to let you know!
