Adapted from the hit stage production of the same name, this music-inspired drama centres on young Americans Drew (Diego Boneta), an aspiring rocker from South Detroit, and Sherrie (Julianne Hough), a hopeful actress from a small town who both arrive in Los Angeles in 1987 to chase their dreams of making it big. The two wind up meeting at The Bourbon Room, a Hollywood music club where he gets a job as a waiter and she’s hired as a waitress and they immediately fall in love. However, their path to true romance is soon obstructed by the seedy nature of the 80’s LA hair-rock scene and they find that if they want to be together they’ll first have to safely negotiate the difficult world of drugs, mullets, and stripping. The film also features performances from such Hollywood big-hitters as Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta-Jones, as well as music diva Mary J. Blige.
