Rouge expresses sadness over the condition of South African Hip Hop without AKA. The absence of AKA has greatly affected the Hip Hop scene in South Africa, leaving a significant gap. Well-known personalities, including Rouge, have openly recognised the loss of AKA’s impact and presence in the country’s rap culture.
On Twitter (X), Rouge shared her feelings about missing the deceased rapper. She posted AKA’s name along with a heartbreak emoji.
In response, Rouge acknowledged that the South African hip-hop scene has changed significantly without AKA. She thought about how Kiernan Forbes had been a major influence on her career goals, inspiring her to keep going. She remembered how his encouragement pushed her to work towards collaborating with him, a dream that she later achieved.
Although she found inspiration in AKA, Rouge had a strong working relationship with AKA as they collaborated. Their collaboration is the 2020 song “One by One,” which showcased a more pop-influenced sound compared to Rouge’s usual style.
“I won’t lie it has… it’s just not the same without him. I remember when I started he was the one artists that would make me write and write cause one day ” I could work with AKA” so I had to keep going to meet my idol,” she wrote.
