After the success of his EP, Rock Star. Producer, Engineer, and DJ AirBurn Sounds signs massive management deal with Strangefruit Talent Management. He wrapped the year 2023 with the release of his EP titled Rock Star on 8 December. Producer, Engineer and DJ, AirBurn Sounds, real name Thabo Mahundla plans to make the years 2024 his time to shine. AirBurn Sounds has been in the background, working, and crafting as a producer and Sound engineer for more than a decade.
The year 2023 has been his time to shine as he stepped into the limelight as a DJ and producer. “I have been exploited by many labels. I have been making music since I was 9 years old and everything, I have been through has been a build-up to this moment,” he says. I have found a team whose vision aligns with mine. It’s a cut-throat industry, everyone is ruthless and looking out for themselves. To find a team that believe sin your dreams is a blessing,” AirBurn Sounds says.
The Limpopo-born and Joburg Alexandra and Thembisa, music genius has produced for artists such as Master KG, Nomcebo Zikode, DJ Tira, Makhadzi, Temwah, Zanda Zakuza, Mr Brown, Boity, Rethabile Khumalo, Nokwazi and many more is on a mission to take over the world stage. His hard work has earned him a place on the international stage. His Spotify numbers (112 K streams, 58 K Listeners, 715 Followers, in 113 Countries) for the year 2023 earned him appreciation in his hometown – South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, the UK and Zimbabwe.
“Music is my calling. I have had to fight for wat I believe,” he says. “It hasn’t been easy. But we are well on our way. For year. I have been working in the background trying to perfect the craft and we are getting there. Watching my peers succeed ahead of me has been beautiful motivation for me to also work hard.”
Formerly signed to Open Mic Productions, AirBurn Sounds left in 2023 and released music through his own company AirBurn Sounds, and new label Makhathes Productions. His recent contract with Strangefruit is another milestone. “I only believe in partnering with people with the same vision as me and same values,” he says.
His versatility and non-conformist nature have seen him work with artists from various genres including Gqom, Kwaito, Jazz, Maskandi, traditional Tsonga music, dance, Hip-Hop, and dance. AirBurn Sounds won his first DK competition at 15 years old at the Red Squad DJ Competition. He produced songs that topped charts across radio stations. He has travelled the African continent and Europe. His single titled Thando Uzongibulala featuring Makhadzi saw him make waves. He has shared stages with artists DJ Mpahorisa, Burna Boy, Sjava, Buffalo Soulja and many more.
“I have been able to work with different artists because I am not limited to genre. I am an artist, a creative and genre is just a box,” he says. The title Rock Star represents success, fame, and musical sensation. For AirBurn Sounds it is a manifestation of things to come. “It’s a manifestation of being highly accomplished,” AirBurn Sounds says. “A rock star is someone who is success-orientated, works hard and is enthusiastic and even charismatic.”
