Local fashion and sustainable textile designer, Sindiso Khumalo has recently bagged the award of Independent Designer of the Year at what is known as the ‘Oscars of Fashion’, the Green Carpet Fashion Awards.
The prestigious awards show aims to celebrate the work and commitment of fashion houses in producing sustainable fashion collections as well as acknowledging the footprint of the fashion industry .
Given the current circumstances with the global Corona Virus pandemic, the year’s Green Carpet Fashion Awards took place virtually in Italy at the Teatro alla Scala Opera House. The show, which spanned out for 45 minutes featured a combination of holograms, film, visual FX and augmented reality.
In accepting her award, Sindiso Khumalo had this to say:
“What a privilege to be honoured for the work that we do in sustainability. I started my brand with the premise of being a modern-day Robin Hood: to create luxury clothing that will eventually help the poorest and most vulnerable in our society; to create a change for our continent, and create a new future for our youth. This award reaffirms that dream.”
The Cape Town based designer then went on to accept her award consisting of a Green Carpet Fashion Awards statuette designed by Chopard. To see all that went down at the show, make sure to watch the video below.
