Entertainment icon and multi-platinum artist Snoop Lion (@SnoopLion), aka Snoop Dogg, headlined the inaugural MTV Africa All Stars concert in Durban on Saturday 18 May 2013 and headed to Joburg the following Sunday on the 19th for the Ellis Park concert.
The “Reincarnated” rapper, singer-songwriter, producer, actor and reality star ignored a metro police warning and allegedly smoked dagga on stage at the Standard Bank Arena. According to the New Age and Times Live, the Johannesburg metro police warned that anyone found in possession of drugs would be arrested, after reports that the US artist smoked dagga during his show at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban on Saturday. Concert organisers, G&G Events, told the newspaper it could not confirm or deny what Snoop Lion had been smoking.
What went on backstage was strictly artists’ business, company spokesman Darren Sandras was quoted as saying. “It looked like weed, smelt like weed and I am convinced Snoop was smoking weed on stage. It was one hell of a performance,” an anonymous fan told The New Age.
