The nominees of the 7th annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) were announced this past Wednseday at a star-studded event held in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. The SAFTAS are the premier film and television industry awards under the custodianship of the National Film and Video Foundation. The award’s main objectives is to honour, celebrate and promote the creativity, quality and excellence of South African film and television talent, and encourage entrepreneurship and the development of new talent in the industry. Hosted by author, presenter and comedian Nik Rabinowitz, the nominees announcement was attended by industry personalities from across film and television value chain as well as government representatives. The SAFTAs ceremonies will take place on the 15th and 16th of March 2013 in Midrand, broadcast live on SABC 3 on the 16th March with highlights from the 15th. Mzansi Magic and Top TV will broadcast an edited version of the awards.
