The launch of the Union Bar with Bombay Sapphire took place at corner Oxford & Chaplin Road/in the heart of Johannesburg in Illovo, this installment of the pop-up bar sets to be the hottest haunt in town. SA’s biggest names in the fashion and entertainment industry, including Anele Mdoda, Janez Vermeiren, Jen Su, Idols host Proverb and Top Billing’s Simba Mhere, were welcomed by a movement for people who don’t put boundaries to music – Planet Lindela; and singing sensation and songwriter, Bongi Mvuyana, took to the stage to perform some jams from her upcoming album, “Dopamine”. Khanyi Mbau, accompanied by Tebogo Lerole of Kwela Tebza, danced the night away to the sounds of DJ Swag; while others including fashion designers David Tlale, Palse Homme creator Paledi & Gavin Rajah got their taste buds tantalized with cocktails while catching up with old mates. TV personalities and socialites Roxy Burger, Zakeeyah Patel, Sinazo Yolwa, Selae Thobegale were in attendance as well as Dalen Lance, Lee-Roy Wright, Tamerine Jardine, Vicky Crease, Eda Rose and Tshepo Mogale. “We wanted to create a place full of people with adventures that made even a lack of good sense seem tame. We wanted it to be somewhere anyone would be excited to go to,” say Justin Kramer and Joshua Shifren – founders of The Union Bar.
