Stogie T does SA proud in his Sway in the Morning interview
We never have to worry about SA Hip Hop as long as there are certified Hip Hop heads who are still around and repping for the culture. And Tumi Molekane, otherwise known as Stogie T, made the country proud when he recently made an appearance on popular American talk show, Sway In the Morning.
The love he is receiving from social media has been nothing but positive and the response was not just to his freestyle but also to his very perceptive interview.
Stogie T is the fifth SA rapper to grace the institutional talk show after Cassper Nyovest, AKA, Nasty C and Kwesta did their thing and made us proud.
There was something tangibly different about his interview though which summed up the appearances of the previous rappers. Stogie T showed his vast knowledge of Hip Hop and black history in both his raps as well as the interview.
The interview was very insightful and Stogie gave plenty of insights into the land question, the power of Hip Hop and addressing race relations and also addressing the growth and evolution of Hip Hop in South Africa. He briefly put into context the role that Hip Hop has played in his success but also how it has grown from the time he was touring the world back in 2000 until now.

Speaking very highly of the role Pro Kid and HHP played in the foundations of Hip Hop, he gave them shout outs including Ben Sharpa, a Hip Hop legend who also passed away this year. He also addressed his “beef” with Cassper Nyovest after the meltdown that Cassper had at last year’s SAHHA.
But the most incredible thing about this interview was how he weaved the theme of Honey and Pain, his latest project, and how he has always takes the good with the bad.
