The first time we caught wind of Coco Brown was when she won the 2022 Miller x Boiler Room DJ competition. This meant that she got to play live at the Boiler Room stage in Cape Town alongside Zakes Bantwini. Since the Miller x Boiler Room win, Coco says life has not drastically changed. The recognition from Miller sets her apart from her peers, acknowledges Coco, and her experiences has led her to the realization that she needs to invest into her artistry.
Coco’s experiences continue to shape her career, which is a constant reminder for her to stay true to herself. “The industry will continually change but you must not let that define your brand”, adds Coco.
Coco feels passionate about women in her line of work. She acknowledges the shift in the industry and is confident that women are bold and vocal, and the industry is now obligated to listen.

What is your favorite DJing memory?
One of my favorite memories of DJing must be early in my career when I was still apart of a duo and we were playing at Kitcheners. Just as we finished, we realized that Thandiswa Mazwai was one of the people still jamming to our set. We went over to say Hi to her afterwards, and we got a huge compliment. She loved our music and teased us about being way too young to have such impeccable taste in music.
What track would you say is present in most if not all of your mixes right now?
My go to track right now is definitely Last Last by Burna Boy. It is literally everyone’s favorite, you can’t go wrong anywhere you are.

If you are not on the decks, you are?
Definitely home. I absolutely love what I do but the streets are so exhausting when I am not working. I’m happier when I’m home.
What would you say is your dream event to DJ at?
Dream event without a doubt in my mind is Coachella. I see it so vividly in my mind. I am actively manifesting it and I know it will happen one day.
Do you see yourself making and performing your own music one day?
Absolutely. I’m in the process right now of putting together my music. You will definitely hear something from me soon.
Coco Brown is a visionary and is aware of what surrounds her, and the space she is in currently. She is definitely one to look out for.
