After thrilling 16-day auditions process which created much excitement and inspiration to the youth of KZN, SABC1 and Selimathunzi alongside Metro FM, embarked on the Black Carpet Presenter Search, producing a winner! 24 year-old Umlazi born and bred in Bellair songstress, Tamasha Gambushe also known as Tamarsha, was announced as the winner during Tuesday nights’ episode of Selimathunzi on SABC1 Mzansi Fo Sho.
This is what elated Tamarsha had to say when asked about this exciting moment in her life: “The audition process has been a great experience for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was able to meet new people and I have learnt much. It is a great opportunity for me that I’m immensely grateful and honoured to be a part of.”
Thousands of enthusiastic hopefuls responded to the initial call to entry, which opened on Monday 03 February 2014, via the Selimathunzi website, and the judging panel whittled the number down to 120 who were invited to the second leg of the auditions process at the BAT Centre in Durban (14-15 Feb).
The overall winner of the Black Carpet Presenter Search was presented to our viewers for the first time during Selimathunzi on Tuesday 18 February. “These auditions were able to bring together young aspiring youths from all walks of life, from KZN. The mood throughout, was casual, fun but still with the aim of finding the most suitable person. Hosting this process has been a rewarding exercise for all involved. And, congratulations to Tamarsha Gambushe,” says Creative Director at Selimathunzi, Joshua Mudau.
Tamarsha full winner’s package will see her co-host this years’ Black Carpet at the Metro Music Awards ceremony alongside television darlings, Zizo Beda, Sinazo Yolwa and Amanda du-Pont on the RGB Live Broadcast at the Black Carpet. She will also get the opportunity to present inserts for Selimathunzi.
In the meantime, Tamarsha, will be flown to Joburg, booked in a 4-star hotel, and taken through a 5-day course in presenting and exposure at the SABC in preparation for her big day presenting live at the 13th MMAs broadcasting on Saturday 01 March 2014 from the ICC in Durban.
“SABC1 has a good track record in unearthing South African youth TV talent and we have proudly done so once again with the Black Carpet Presenter Search,” says Dichaba Phalatse, SABC1’s Portfolio Marketing Manager: Entertainment.
“Tamarsha won out of on-line entries exceeding 4000, and auditions held for over 100 shortlisted candidates. The process was not easy and between SABC1, Metro FM and Ukhozi FM, we are confident South Africa will fall in love with Tamarsha the way we have.”
