The comedy channel continues to carry the torch for SA comedians in its monthly stand-up show Comedy Central Presents…Live at Parker’s (Comedy Central, DStv Channel 122, 20:55 CAT, Friday 18 January 2012). Making people laugh until their lungs bleed in the January edition of the comedy special are Tats Nkonzo, Hannes Brümmer, Darren Maule and Eureka Nkese. At the helm as MC is satirical genius Tats Nkonzo (@TatsNkonzo). Clutching his trusty guitar, a massive arsenal of observational humour, and a cutting intellect, Nkonzo nails topics from stigmas to stereotypes, confronting and challenging his audience at the same time with musical interludes such as his “White Man’s Protest Song”.
Hyperactive comedian Hannes Brümmer (@Maaskaas) delights in making people laugh with his highly energetic and physical humour. Jumping manically from one subject to another, Brümmer doesn’t have to dig too deep to find the comedy inherent in his Afrikaans heritage, the ever-raging battle of the sexes and the influence of the media on society.
Whether he is on a beach battling the elements, acting in a TV series, emcee-ing a black tie event, chairing a game show or reeling off jokes in front of an audience, comedy veteran Darren Maule (@darrenmaule) is the consummate performer. A TV favourite – remember Survivor, Play TV, Hard Copy, Out of the Box and Font? – Maule also keeps East Coast Radio listeners laughing into their cereal with his regular gig co-hosting the daily breakfast show, The Breakfast Stack. Rising comedy star Eureka Nkese (@eureka2funny) is making waves on the Gauteng comedy circuit thanks to his entertaining cultural observations and social satire. The king of the quirky one-liner, Nkese shares his unique world view of relationships, religion, families and everyday issues.
