With the IEC responsible for capturing data in densely populated metropolitan areas and more remote rural areas, Telkom continues to provide the data network as well as the technological structure to make it all possible for the independent organization. Reflecting and commenting on Telkom’s role in servicing the IEC, Managing Executive of Converged Communications at Telkom-owned BCX, Prashil Gareeb had the following to say:

“Telkom has been helping to bring democracy to the people since our first democratic elections in 1994. In that time, we have helped to facilitate six national elections and five municipal polls. We have come along way over this time.”

Along with their years of experience, Telkom brings their tech resources ranging from speed fibre lines, the most advanced in Wi-Fi technology, 60 satellites, legacy copper connections and more to aid with the process.

“The people of South Africa are dependent on our connectivity to make their votes count. It all boils down to the technologies we deploy to service the electorate and the IEC, regardless of where voting is taking place.”
