The second annual Colour Your Life event was held in White River, Mpumalanga. This marked the first “live recording” and it was to showcase what under-privileged children can do with little training in Arts. The purpose for the initiative was to give back to children in rural areas to access the performing arts, the event was filled with enthusiastic crowd, celebrity judges and media alike who felt that the initiative was a first of its kind. We were graced with the presence of the MEC of Arts and Culture in Mpumalanga Ms Sbongile Manana who presented the children with certificates of performance. The 10 schools that participated were judged in categories that included: singing, acting and dancing. Even celebrity judges; Crushanda Forbes (Idols Top 3 finalist) and Bonnie Henna (Rhythm City) amongst others were highly impressed with the exceptional talent of the children from Kabakwini.
MC for the evening was none other than the beautiful Rami Chuene who kept the audience entertained from the onset. Great performances from Cleo Filander, finalist of SA’s Got Talent 2009 who gave a powerful performance with her angelic voice that moved the audience. She was followed by Crushanda who performed “My African Dream” and not forgetting the master of electric violin, Caitlin. These artists proved that ladies can put up an outstanding performance with no assistance from their counterparts. Auctions, Prize-giving and speeches were not short of the night. All proceeds from the event will go to the Colour your Life Project which is headed by Jeanine from Auto Tech. Venue was supplied by Casterbridge hotel and resort and vehicles by Peugeot who were one of the sponsors for the night. Mel Sellars in partnership with Nana Stapelberg from Sugar & Groove hosted us with grace; they even got Peugeot to transport us to and fro White River while we were accommodated at Casterbridge Hotel.
