It’s that time of the year again when local celebrities get – out on the court to play in the annual ESPN Celebrity Basketball Showdown. Scheduled for Saturday 25 May 2013, hip hop and basketball fanatics are invited to cheer on the teams at St. Stithians College from 12pm. Broadcast exclusively on ESPN (DStv channel 230), the event brings a Mzansi feel to the NBA playoffs happening in the United States at the moment. There is also an exhibition game, which sees varsity pro all-star players from the elite varsity basketball clubs battle it out on the court.
The event will see two teams battle it out for the title – team Vuzu, featuring home grown talent such as Tumisho Masha, Bongani Fassie, DJ Cleo, L Tido, and Dineo Ranka, coached by Fred Kayembe, will play against team Channel O, featuring DJ Dimplez, Monotone, Tbo Touch, DJ Warras, Naves and Prudence, and coached by Akin Omotso. They will be joined by other celebrities.
Entertaining spectators on the day is Moneoa and holding it down on the decks is DJ Dimples featuring L-Tido, Maggz and JR. Come and check out who has the best crossover, who can dunk, who has the prettiest jumper, who can hit the long range bomb from downtown and who will be talking the most smack on the court.
After the exciting match, wind down to the real action on ESPN (DStv channel 230) which has a jam packed line up of all the NBA championship basketball action. This championship features the finest teams in the Eastern and Western conference challenge, challenging each other for a place in the NBA conference finals and for the grand price in the NBA finals.
All games will be aired live on ESPN with repeats the same day in the afternoon.
