The cry of Winnie Mandela is riveting book that gives the reader inside information of the possibilities of what has/ might have happened in the life of the mother of the nation(Nomzamo Winifred ‘Winnie’ Madikizela Mandela). Even though this is fiction there are some facts which make the imaginary world feel a bit real. Ndebele creates scenarios of women who have been in the same situation as Winnie. Perfecting the art of waiting for their husbands to return to home. He tells the story from the women’s perspective, emotional strain ,the humiliations, regrets and learning to move on without the other party they’ve been waiting for years. This is a revised version with new information added on and it also refers to other books and newspaper articles. There’s a lot of humour and vernacular words used. The Cry of Winnie Mandela is not Ndebele’s first book as he is also the author of Fools and Other Stories and Fine Lines from the Box.
