The third installment of Maftown Heights took place at Bassline, Newtown, Johannesburg on Friday 30 November 2012. Over the past three years Maftown Heights has been making a strong mark in the hip hop scene and has now solidified itself as the ultimate, must attend, annual hip hop event that celebrates the loudly and proudly South African born hip hop sub-genre known as Motswako and the town of its origin, Mafikeng!
This dude who goes by the name of Flex Boogie is one of those PTA rappers who have been doing it for a while without getting much recognition but either way he makes sure that you feel his presence on stage, his performance was very interesting.
AKA was in good spirits at this year’s Maftown heights, he even appeared to be humble for a change…
These guys go by the name of “Hash One”…look out for them I think they are about to take the Motswako industry to a whole new level…
The king of Motswako himself HHP shut it down stundee!
It was refreshing to see Jozi on stage after a while, for a moment there I thought they were no longer together
Mr gata lenna JR came on stage with a mask and performed a new song, but we could see that it was him that was before he did the unthinkable and guess which song he sang next? yeap you guessed it “gata lenna”
Kabelo Mabelane performed his latest track “ice cream soda” which the crowd didn’t know so he made a powerful come back with his original kwaito classics and everybody went nuts
KG from Morafe sang his heart out accompanied by a white lady who seemed to know Setswana very well, I don’t think the masses are ready for his new tswana love songs though but I really enjoyed his set
I’ve always thought this kid KT was the Motswako future king but he has been quiet after releasing his popular track “gagola” back in damn I don’t even know when
Lection is one of those underrated SA rappers, he is very entertaining
The black farmer who happens to be a rapper Mr Mo’Molemi did what he does best, he spat some deep rooted controversial tswana rhymes and the masses responded well
MTV VJ Nomuzi Mabena spotted in the crowd
I think it’s only safe to say that Notshi is definetly the next Motswako king…
Stoan Seate and Dineo Moeketsi were the hosts of the evening
Bassline was fully packed, moving around was a mission and a half
Lenyora
Towdee Mac from Morafe did not give a good performance
Motswakoriginator Khuli Chana and his Ninjas, big ups to the organisers what an awesome event.
