The buzz around food festivals this time of the year is palpable and what better time is there for the Vaal to stand up and get its shine on. Thus the Sharpeville Food Festival is upon us.
Sharpeville is an iconic township in the Vaal Triangle, south of Johannesburg, where the horrendous Sharpeville Massacre took place back in the 60’s. This forever stamped the area as one which helped bring about a revolution in the country against the Apartheid regime. This coming weekend, however, it will be the scene of progression and great vibes. The Sharpeville Food Festival will present to us a food, drink and music event featuring 20 food stalls and over 15 Artists with a beverage garden. Basically, it’s gonna be lit!
The founder and director, Romeo Malepe is an all round creative who not only makes dope music, graphics, photography and but he is also passionate about the re branding of Sharpeville and making it a “go-to destination” in the country. He expressed that he wanted to bring people together with this festival and also inspire the youth.
In a recent interview he spoke of wanting to “strike a balance between culinary and music fans” with this festival which is why the line-up is so madd impressive. The line-up includes Vaal natives such as rappers, Masedi, Mathematics and X-Rate to name a few. Popular DJs who also made the list include DJ Nano, DJ Chainz, DJ Webster Black, DJ Bubbles, DJ Soosh among many others and of course, international DJ, Harrison Crump will be one of the headliners.
