Soweto’s Award-Winning Beatbox Acapella Group The Soil Make a US Live Debut At “African Now Festival” At The Apollo Theatre on 15 March 2013 so they hosted a farewell party this past Saturday at Taboo in Sandton. The most renowned group has been hard at work preparing for this performance in New York so they decided to give us a little preview of what they will be doing overseas.
They also announced the release of their US Super Deluxe Edition of the Self-Titled Platinum Debut tomorrow on 12 March 2013. Sipho Sithole of Native Rhythms Productions says “This could well be The Soil’s international breakthrough as their performance will find resonance with US audiences who have really taken a liking to this group since they broke on WBAI 99.5 public radio with their smash hit singles ‘Joy’ and ‘Sunday’”.
The Soil’s performance is part of the weekend-long “Africa Now! Festival” presented by the Apollo Music Café in partnership with the World Music Institute. The Super Deluxe Edition of the band’s first offering, which will be released digitally through SIN/Sony Music Entertainment Africa/Native Rhythms Records on 12 March 2013 is an audio / video combo. Influenced by greats such as Miriam Makeba, Busi Mhlongo, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Simphiwe Dana, while also drawing from a wide range of genres, the record is a culmination of years of dedication, hard work and a passion for music. According to the group, the album is a reflection of their aspiration for a world full of joy, and it’s a message they carry out with each performance.
“…it has been an incredible journey for us thus far and now this opportunity to perform to new audiences is only the beginning of a larger plan that we have to share our music with the world – please follow us on twitter @TheSoilMusic as we share these experiences with you…” they said.
