Bassline Live is proud to announce the return of THE SOIL to their annual Bassline Live at the Lyric Theatre series. This will be presented on Friday 3rd November 2023. Tickets are available through Computicket from R350.
The last time The Soil performed at The Bassline Live at The Lyric Theatre on 3rd August 2019, it was totally sold out. Bassline has been waiting for the right moment for The Soil to return, and it has arrived!
As The Soil are working on their latest album and their beautiful single off of this much anticipated album, “Thandwa Ndim” will be released this coming 6th October 2023, with “The Songstress” & featuring Thee Legacy.
“Bassline Live at The Lyric Theatre is like coming back home to us. We have performed at that venue to The Soil family and have always been inspired by the way they have received us. This time it is going to be different, as we would also be giving a sneak preview to the new material from our upcoming album. And, as for Theo ‘The Songstress’ wait to be very amazed, it’s The Soil re-imagined. That’s all we can say”, said The Soil.
“Bassline has been fortunate in its 29 years in the music industry, to be exposed to incredible South African talent, The Soil being one them who have been doing shows with us through the Bassline’s venue times and performed at the Bassline Fest in 2011 and 2016 to huge acclaim. We have literally watched them grow and grow over the years. We are delighted to have them back on the Bassline Live promoted stage at the beautiful Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City.” Says Brad Holmes, Bassline Founder.
This performance will see the return of “The Songstress” Theo Matshoba, who will be stepping in again, except now as the official member of the group, after Buhlebendalo Mda’s decision to embark purely on her solo career. “The Songstresses” story with The Soil is a truly beautiful journey from when she originally sent a random post in 2011 to “her favourite group” saying that there was an element missing, and that element was her.
To fast forward to 2016, when Buhlebendalo took a sabbatical from The Soil, the group advertised for auditions and Theo Matshoba applied and landed the job. She filled in so well during that time, that it was a no-brainer to call on her to once again complete the trio’s sounds with her beautiful voice.
Catch the legendary, multi-award winning acapella group from Soweto, brothers singer Ntsika “Fana-tastic” Ngxanga & Beatboxer Luphindo Ngxanga, who celebrate 20 years in the industry. Experience the musical magic we know them to create, as the group is want to say “alongside their first member, The Creator”.
The Soil are a worldwide sensation and have taken their uplifting and healing sounds to many parts of the Globe, from Winning 1st Prize at the White Nights at St Petersburg Music Competition, Russia & performing at the Apollo Theatre, New York, NY in 2014 to MetroFM Award winners in 2015 and most recently, this year they performed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Every show of The Soil is a unique and transcendent experience, so make sure that they are not missed. The Soil has toured and performed at WOMAD UK, WOMAD Australia, WOMAD New Zealand, and WOMAD Chile, not to forget SAKIFO in Reunion Island.
Come dressed to sing and dance “Kasi Soul” style while we journey in song through Nostalgic Moments to Echoes of Kofifi and beyond to new tracks, Thandwa Ndim, and others in the making.
