Back for another amazing year of exploring and discovering fresh fashion talent is the All Fashion Sourcing Young Designer Competition.
Through a well forecasted brief prepared by industry forecaster Nicola Cooper, contestants were tasked with interpreting the theme ‘Africa is Now’ by designing a trendy ready to wear look.
With the competition open to designers graduating in 2020, or having recently graduated or who are currently part of a design internship program, a total of 10 finalists were selected by the Cape Town Fashion Council as well as Nicola Cooper. They include:
- Bronwyn Grobbelaar
- Caitlyn Blofield
- Caylin Wilsnach
- Dorcas Mutombo
- Gabi Rose Bezuidenhout
- Hannah Wilson
- Jacques Bam
- Mbalenhle Mncube
- Morgane Lamport
- Sinazo Janda
In competing, the finalists stand a chance of winning the grand prize of an all expenses paid trip to Paris where they will get the opportunity to showcase their designs at Texworld Paris in February 2021 (or later within the year, depending on the pandemic travel restrictions and regulations.) as well as a R10 000 cash prize.
Despite the competition being unable to showcase live this year due to pandemic restrictions, All Fashion Sourcing Show Director, Kathryn Frew had this to say on the matter:
“As organizers we did not want the Young Designers to not get the buzz and excitement of showing off their garments that they work tirelessly to conceptualize, then create and bring to life. All Fashion Sourcing is the platform to show their talent to the world and hopefully it will springboard for their careers in the world of fashion. The top ten designs selected were filmed in studio and the full production will form part of the program – albeit pre-recorded.”
To follow the show, The Young Designer Competition will be showcased on 4 November at 14:00pm. So make sure to register as a visitor here.
