Proud Sotho girl, Mapitso Thaisi is giving the word “multi-faceted” a whole new meaning. As an occupational therapist who has obtained a Masters degree in Philosophy in Human Rights Law, the young creative also founded her very own fashion line.
Well, to be more specific, Thaisi started a very successful swimwear brand called Shweshwekini of which later grew and expanded into active wear line for both men and women.
“The brand is about embracing the rich cultural essence of the Basotho people with men and women everywhere. I use active wear as a medium of telling my cultural story through the eclectic styles and bright colours of the shweshwe prints. In doing so, I am targeting an area of apparel that is usually neglected by most black designers – swimwear. “
Since starting her brand, Thaisi has showcased her designs at SA Fashion Week and gone on to win amazing competitions such as the Foschini #SebenzaGirl competition which strives to give women a better start and support within the fashion industry. These days, you can find Mapitso living it up on the Gram with her family and friends at @sothogirldiaries. So make sure to give this young and talented fashion creative and successful business woman a follow to find out what she’ll be up to next.
