TRACE Urban – the number one international urban music channel – has been on the hunt for South Africa’s hottest musical talent since September 15 when it launched TRACE Stars, the first mobile song competition to discover South Africa’s rising stars. The launch of the competition was based on an observation : thousands of talented singers can’t register for contests given the complicated terms and conditions of typical casting sessions, the remoteness of certain areas, high costs, the lack of transparency in selection criteria, etc.
TRACE Stars decided to bring down these barriers : candidates simply submit their songs thanks to their mobile phones by calling a phone number and singing a cappella for a maximum of 2 minutes.
TRACE’s panel of judges will select the ten best entries. The public will then get to vote for their favourite contestants. The winner will be chosen among the ten finalists at a Grand Finale event on December 21st in the presence of Wyclef Jean, the President of the jury.Over 100, 000 contestants had already called the competition number within the first 15 days of the competition, which is sponsored by Cell C, NOKIA and Universal Music. The contest winner will receive R100,000 in cash, a VIP trip to the United States to be mentored by Wyclef Jean, a record deal with Universal Music and the production of his/her own music video
