We don’t have to tell you how much we are loving women in hip hop especially when they step up to the plate with great skill and amazing talent. Today for #TrapTuesday we feature female rapper, trapper and all round artist, Nipsey Blunt.
23 year old Minkey Kemelo Mokgethi, better known by her stage name Nipsey Blunt, is a female rapper, trapper, singer, songwriter and a dancer. She discovered that she could sing at the tender age of 6 and this prompted her to enter school competitions. She went to a music school, Sacred Heart’s Primary School and this where she learned how to write music and increased her passion to pursue the arts.
The North-West talent was born in Mabopane and raised in Taung and raised by her aunt and late uncle. She is currently based in Johannesburg and is signed to Newtown record label, G63 Music. She dropped her debut EP titled Soliloquy in July 2017 and this formed as an introduction of her capabilities as well as her potential.
The 6 track offering was a solid effort which boasted well tailored beats and Nipsey asserting her stance on the game- she is not here as a one hit wonder.
Following the release of debut EP, Nipsey has had a chance to open up for Nadia Nakai in Chez Nicola (Botswana) and performed in major events like Major Lit Session (Botswana), Tshwane Summer Festival among others.
Her latest single, On My Way, is a testament to the fact that she is not willing to settle for anything less than first place. She raps about not having anything to lose since she is caught up with her hustle and moving forward in this music thing fam. Keep your eyes and ears on Nipsey, she’s on her way.
