He has an interesting name and an even more interesting music journey. Peep Sim Maestro, a young rapper from Bronkonspruit, he is our #TrapTuesday profile.

Simphiwe Mathebula better known by his moniker, Sim Maestro, is a rapper and graphic designer from Bronkhorstspruit. He began making music back in 2012 as an electronic music producer who switched up his style to Hip Hop in 2013. This is around the time he started a rap duo called SAD, now named Renaissance With Dimps.

Sim Maestro is a self-aware artist whose music contains themes such as introspection, self-awareness and the human experience. His catalogue of music is quite sizable and it includes a mixtape which dropped along a screenplay named God Complex.

The DAAHF EP followed in 2015 as an experiment in Trap Music. In 2017 he dropped a handful of EPs with the Colours, Life and Celebration EPs being amongst them. Because of the spectrum of sounds from these EP’s, it is easy to see the tapestry of Maestro’s musical taste. He leans more on the what he describes as “experimental and down tempo”.

His recent release is titled Desires and it features SliQ G, Bertrum, Joshua and Colin. Desires has major Trap influences with a laid back approach. It also helps that the hook is catchy and the breaks in the beat give the listener a breather. The song is about “desires and everything that comes with them”. It is deeper than that though because it looks at filling a void with women, money and drugs.

He has been working on his God Complex follow up, The Agony and Ecstasy project which is slated for a 2018 release.

Link up with him on Twitter and peep his Soundcloud page for more on the music.
