In a break from the traditional racecourse entertainments, a trio of stand-up comedy stars will be making all the running and keeping comedy fans roaring with laughter with their finely honed comedy patter. Showing their comedy pedigree will be South Africa’s comedy bloodstock including stand-up favourites Tumi Morake, John Vlismas and Mpho Popps, who’ll be taking over the main stage at the Durban July Eagle Air village from 12:00 CAT – 14:00 CAT.
Fiercely funny comedienne Tumi Morake (@Tumi_Morake), leading the field as South Africa’s top female comedian, will be commanding the stage with her own intelligent, outspoken and provocative brand of comedy. Morake began her comedy journey in a student production of Shakespeare’s “12th Night” playing the role of Feste the clown. It turned out to be a fitting and prophetic role for Morake whose has subsequently received praise as a screenwriter, actress and comedian. Morake’s biggest comedy gigs to date have included emcee-ing the Woodstock Festival, being part of the line-up for 46664’s “It’s No Joke”, being the only woman in the Vodacom Funny Festival and appearing in her critically acclaimed one-woman show “Herstory”. In November 2012, Morake showed her comedy mettle as the first woman to MC stand-up special Comedy Central Presents Tumi Morake Live at Parker’s.
The Eagle Air village has been created by MTV, Fish Eagle and Velti Events as the ultimate racecourse getaway, combining futuristic glam with cool comfort and hot entertainment – all just a few paces from the hustle and bustle of the racecourse.
