Tyla, straight outta South Africa, just bagged a Grammy for Best African Music Performance! Her afropiano and R&B track ‘Water’ got the whole world vibin’, makin’ big moves and snaggin’ global fame. This 22-year-old just made history as the youngest South African and African Grammy winner, no cap.
She scooped up that award at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards premiere ceremony in the Peacock Theater, LA – where all the real deals go down before the main event. Tyla outshined heavy hitters like Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, ASAKE & Olamide, and even Davido with South African homie Musa Keys.
And when she grabbed that golden gramophone, she hit us with, ‘Oh my – what the heck!’ Starting her acceptance speech like a boss, she said, ‘Oh my gosh, guys. This is crazy. Like I never thought I’d say, ‘I won a Grammy at 22 years old, guys.”
Tyla kept it real, shoutin’ out her roots, sayin’, ‘If you don’t know me, my name is Tyla. I’m from South Africa, and last year God decided to change my whole life, so thank you so much to God. Thank you to my team, my family; I know my mother’s crying somewhere in here.’

Big ups to the Recording Academy for recognizing the realness in this category. Tyla closed it out with a bang, ‘It’s so important, and I know I’m forgetting some things, but I won a Grammy! Thank you, thank you.’ Mic drop, and she’s out. Respect to the youngest queen of the Grammy game!”
