Urban Smooth Sessions is bringing its cool vibes to the beaches of Umhlanga, Durban, for the first time on 31 May. The suave sophistication of The Cube nightclub in Umhlanga will be a perfect setting for performances from Nandi Mngoma (@NandiMngoma), Liquideep (@LiquideepSA) and Zakes Bantwini (@ZakesBantwiniSA) while DJs Benny Maverick (@BennyMaverick), C’Ndo (@dj_cndo) and Shimza (@Shimza_dj) will be spinning on into the small hours of the morning.
His recent smash hit performance with Snoop Lion and the MTV Africa All Stars showed Zakes Bantwini at the top of his game. House genius Bantwini is without a doubt South Africa’s most prolific live performer: there is not a single stage in South Africa that this music mogul has not killed thanks to addictive, dancefloor-filling tracks like “Wasting My Time”, “Bum Bum” and most recently “Karolina”, which have been burning up airwaves across the continent. With slick vocals, catchy hooks and elegant production, it’s no surprise to see Bantwini’s tracks being regularly remixed by some of the biggest names in house.
Evoking the shades of Brenda Fassie and Miriam Makeba, Durbanite Nnadi Mngoma (25) is an upcoming singer songwriter best known for her classy single and music video celebrating “Good Times”. A captivating new voice on the SA scene, Nnadi constantly shifts genres, effortlessly moving from Afro Jazz to house and dance and back again. Flawless, sensual vocals combined with an inimitable sense of style and a fun personality mean that this young lady will be a fixture on the SA scene for many years to come.
Sweet, soulful house with a message is the trademark sound of Liquideep (aka singer/songwriter/producer Zyon and DJ/Producer Ryzor). Having burst onto the SA scene thanks to the breakthrough track “Fairytale”, the duo continue to win fans with their deep house soulful grooves which are nimbly showcased on their long awaited third album, “Welcome Aboard” which hit the shops after a three year recording hiatus. The critically acclaimed album, with featured appearances from Idols runner-up Melissa Allison, Ice Prince and Khuli Chana, has been described as their best work to date and could easily see the duo reprising their awards success at the SAMA and MAMA awards.
