Following the success of their chart-topping single ‘Flight Ya Hoseng’ multiplatinum selling duo Venom & Shishiliza are back with a new single titled ‘Rena’. The collaborative effort teamed up with ‘President Ya Straata’ Focalistic featuring the talented Pretorian rapper Mochen and versatile rapper/songwriter G-Tech 2bit.
Known for their slowed-down, soulful lane within the bounds of Amapiano, afro pop, R&B and hip-hop ‘Rena’ sets a fresh musical direction for the duo with infusing elements of kwaito a hip-hop core and a hard log drum to give it an Amapiano note to it, setting a bold tone for the duo. “In regard to the sound, we are going back to the “Sho Boy” sound, which is still in the range of our fusion of different genre’s except that it is more hip-hop based, more of the raps compared to ‘Love Is Pain’ where we leaned more towards the R&B stuff, we’re back on our Hip-hop stuff.”
Venom & Shishiliza teased the streets with hints of a release when they took to their social media and with each post they created high anticipation for the single’s release.
Rena is a subtle yet very bold and unapologetic reminder that Venom & Shishiliza are notably one of the firsts to create and push boundaries with their unmistakable sound, playing a pivotal pioneering role that shaped a movement in the musical landscape. “Like the Drake skit, we started this. We were some of the first to start this movement, and we have receipts to prove it.” Venom reflects on the messaging of the single.
Rena is out now and available for streaming on all digital platforms, listen here.
Have a great day & Don’t Be Weird!
