The Nzimande family confirm the passing of Mzwandile Nzimande was due to Covid-19
It has been 2 days since the news of Wandi “DJ 1D” Nzimande’s passing and the country is still reeling as tributes keep pouring in. The Nzimande family released a statement where they confirmed that the beloved icon passed away due to Covid-19 complications. He passed away at the Olivedale Clinic in Johannesburg.
“It is with profound grief and sadness that we confirm the passing of our Husband, Brother, Father and Son, Mzwandile Nzimande (44). He sadly passed away on Wednesday, the 13th January 2020 at 09:00am at the Olivedale Clinic in Johannesburg after being diagnosed positive with Covid19,” part of the statement read.
Wandi was affectionately known by most as DJ1D. He was the co-founder of popular streetwear and lifestyle brand Loxion Kulca. DJ 1D was also a resident DJ on Kaya FM and was a key component on SABC 1’s Evolution of Mzansi Street Culture. He was known to all as a true friend and brother.
From the tributes that have streamed in, DJ 1D is described as warm-hearted and supportive person whose passion for storytelling and music seeped into everything that he did.
The funeral will follow all Covid protocol under the South African law, and will unfortunately only be open to immediate family members and close friends. Media, friends and colleagues are invited to view the funeral via the livestreamed – details to follow.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Hlapo and his three strong and brave girls ,Senzi, Zandi and Zwelethu as well as with his two brothers Bheki and Ayanda.
