Anita Ronge defies all societal norms and stereotypes this country has come to know. Not only is she an Afrikaans woman, she is a revered house and kwaito DJ, who has been effortlessly blazing parties in townships such as, Tembisa, Vosloorus and Soweto. Many know her by her stage name, Kasi Mlungu or The DuchAz and she is boss behind the decks.

The 26-year-old DJ hails from Kempton Park and began spinning the decks in 2014. She has since garnered so much love and respect and her fan base increases with her every mix. In a 2014 interview with community newspaper, Kempton Express, The DuchAz relived her first experiences of playing ekasi;

“I remember once having a gig in Tembisa and as I stepped up on stage, you could see the shock on people’s faces as they thought, ‘a white girl coming to play house?’ As soon as I started playing, though, the crowd warmed up and jammed to my music in the end,” she explained.

The former FHM model often refers to herself as “stoko sa lekgoa” and even has a clothing brand that sells items with the tag line. It’s clear to see how this open-minded powerhouse was selected as one of the ambassadors for new, premium tequila flavoured beer, Liberado – she exudes and embodies everything the brand is about; being edgy, liberated, bold and passionate.

The DuchAz not only redefines what it means to be a true South African; she is also an inspiring testament of what happens when you release your fears and open yourself to embracing and exploring cultures and lifestyles that may be different to yours. She is definitely a refreshing example of what the rainbow nation is and should be.

The DuchAz is also spicy. See a past Facebook post from the DJ that got tongues wagging:

This woman crush is too fabulous for words, both as a performer, and a liberated South African. You have to hear her perform to understand how fantastic she really is. Here’s a short snippet of one of her performances in Rustenburg last year.
