Suzy Mukendi On How She Propels Raresparkle.
We chat to the creative behind Raresparkle, a local brand that caters for sophisticated and edgy women that love being up to date with the latest in fashion. She speaks about her personal style and her Cancer collection.
Q: What inspired you to follow this passion?
A: The stereotype of the fashion industry made me follow this passion of mine. I knew from the start I wanted to make a difference and change people’s opinion of the industry. It’s not all fake and materialistic as most people might think. It actually plays a huge role on the way we creatives think, live and communicate with others.
Q: How would you best describe your personal style?
A: I love to try everything, so I will go from edgy to sexy to over the top. I’m all about pushing boundaries and just wearing whatever I want and it actually turns out way better than expected.
Q: Which of your collections, is your favourite and why?
A: Definitely my cancer collection, I used a combination of materials to create the pieces. From satin, velvet and plastic and the idea behind it were to represent how vulnerable and fragile Cancer is. The plastic represented IV and respiratory drips and the outfit turned out perfectly. Needless to say the production was a success.
Q: How would you best describe fashion?
A: Well in my opinion I think fashion is creative, expressive and distinctive with endless possibilities.
Q: What skills according to you are necessary to be a successful fashion designer?
A: Definitely to be high on creativity, one has to be a hard worker and passion also plays a vital role!
Q: How do you stay up to date with the latest in fashion trends?
A: I always love seeing what designers from all over the world are up to and I like keeping up to date with social media.
