South African rapper AKA has been causing some stir on twitter for the past two days as he has accused fellow SA rapper Ifani of getting a brand to buy 20 000 copies in a day which made him the first local rapper to reach the gold selling status within 24 hours. AKA says that Ifani got REDD’s to buy the copies from him this lead to the premium cider releasing an official statement denying the allegations. “REDD’S supports local talent, and takes pride in iFani’s recent success. However, the brand did not buy any of the 20 000 copies of the album to ensure that it reached gold status. The allegations made are factually incorrect” the statement reads. They continued by saying “However, “Today, REDD’S has bought 200 copies of iFani’s “I Believes In Me Quadrant2” album as an extension of our support to the multi-talented Xhosa rap extraordinaire, and no more,” said Michelle Pavkovich, Marketing Manager at REDD’S, South Africa.
“iFani has been a valued partner of REDD’S since his involvement in our National Redd’s Street Carnival. He has been a very popular part of our artist line-up at the Bloemfontein, Nelspruit, and Port Elizabeth REDD’S Street Carnivals’ after-parties where the SAMA award-winning artist wowed the crowds’ added Michelle.
