Covid-19 numbers are up and hotel magnate Sol Kerzner has died of cancer.

The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in South Africa has risen to 402. Of the cases, 207 are in Gauteng. 

This is according to a statement issued by health minister Zweli Mkhize on Monday afternoon. 

The virus has now spread to all nine provinces, he announced. 

“Fellow South Africans, as of today, South Africa has 402 confirmed cases of Covid-19,” said Mkhize. “This means there has been an increase of 128 from [Sunday’s] announcement,” he said. 

The President is due to address the people of South Africa later this evening. 

We urge citizen’s to social distance as much as they can, wash and sanitize their hands and stay safe during these times. 

Sol Kerzner, the founder of the Southern Sun Hotel Group and Sun International, has died. He was 84 years old. 

Kerzner died on Saturday night surrounded by family members at the family home, Leeukoppie Estate in Cape Town. He had been suffering from cancer.  

The son of Russian immigrants, Kerzner was born in Johannesburg in 1935. Trained in accounting, he entered the hospitality industry in 1962 when purchased the Astra, a small inn located in Durban. 

His breakthrough project was the construction of the Beverley Hills in Umhlanga Rocks – the first five-star hotel in South Africa. Partnering with South African Breweries to establish Southern Sun Hotels, he operated 30 luxury hotels by 1983. 

Kerzner is survived by his children Andrea, Beverley, Brandon and Chantal and ten grandchildren. His eldest son, Howard ‘Butch’ Kerzner died in 2006. 

He will be buried at a small, private funeral attended by only his immediate family. 

Lerato Kganyago has shared snaps of her lavish traditional wedding to Thami Ndlala, and it was straight out of a fairytale. 

The media personality is known for keeping her love life private, but lifted the lid on her special day, which took place on March 14, with snaps on Instagram at the weekend. 

With a caption reading “My family over everything”, Lerato is pictured with industry big shots Kaizer and Lesetja Kganyago.
