Relebogile has been in the media and entertainment industry for the past 12 years and is well known as an actress and TV presenter but not many people get to see or are aware of what she does behind the scenes. Relebogile has over the past few years entrenched herself behind the scenes where she is making waves. She is one of a handful of female musical directors in a male dominated industry. She is currently the musical director of The Sing Off SA and Afro Café. She was also the musical director on e.tv’s “I Love South Africa” and Nigeria’s “Star The Winner Is”.

Relebogile is also responsible for composing the theme music for the following: You Belong for SABC 2, Afro Café, Nedbank KeYona – Make The Team, Making Moves, Sunday Chillas and e.tv’s I Love South Africa. Relebogile is also handling the music of SABC 1’s new music platform Koze Kuse, SABC 1’s Mzansi Insider and SABC Sports radio campaign for Laduma, [email protected], Soccer 411 and SoccerZone.

She consults for musicians such as Ringo Madlingozi for their live shows and also co-hosts a radio slot on 702 & Cape Talk. All the behind the scenes work that Relebogile is currently doing, she has done through her own media company, Lebotja Media, which is proving to be a successful enterprise for this young entrepreneur. Under Lebotja Media, Relebogile has released Fortune Masina’s new album.

Relebogile has recently started a weekly online YouTube series called, #RMIndustryTips, where she shares some tips on how to make it in the industry and has rallied fellow industry personalities to join in and share their tips for people wanting to get into their industries. I had a chat with her and this is what went down…

Q: Where has Relebogile been and what has been keeping her busy?

A: I’ve been continuing to grow my career that includes growing my company and record label LEBOJTA MEDIA, producing AFRO CAFÉ and being the musical director of various productions in Mzansi and in Africa.

Q: August is Woman’s month, what kind of woman would you like to project to the world?

A: A strong passionate driven woman with a purpose.

Q: You have been in this industry for a very long time, what are the three things that you have learned that have helped you to maintain longevity?

Q: You are best known for being an actress and presenter when did you decide to venture into the music side of the entertainment industry?

A: I’ve always been in music side of the industry, it’s just it’s only now that people know about me as a singer and a writer.

Q: What or who inspired you to start your company Lebotja media?

A: My dad…he kept pushing me to start my own company many years ago. This is the rebrand.

Q: You currently have a number of projects under your belt, how do you maintain balance between managing your work schedule and having a private life?

A: I try hard to create boundaries though it’s really hard managing both. The trick is little sleep!

Q: If you had to choose between Radio, TV and Presenting which one would you choose and why?

A: I’d choose RADIO because of its power and its reach and because I’m still a scholar at it. It’s an exciting new venture for me where I get to interact with people.

Q: What inspired you to start the weekly online series and how has it been received?

A: It’s the knowledge I have access to through all the people I know and to give people advise and tips cause people always ask for my advise for someone who has been out there , while doing it in a fun way.

Q: What quote do you live by?

A: “This too shall pass” It applies to all good times and bad so one should hang in there and appreciate the good moments.

Q: What is the best gift you’ve ever received?

A: This life! Is there anything greater!?!?

Q: When will starting a family fit into Relebogiles busy lifestyle?

A: This I will leave to God. I think when it’s time it will happen.

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

A: That I can be quite shy at times. Shocker, I know!

Q: What do you do to relax and have fun?

A: I’m a home body! Anything that involves comfortable clothes, laughs and family and good friends.

Q: What is the one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?

A: That it all goes by so fast and I should take it all in and enjoy it a bit more.

Q: Your life has been quite a journey so far, if there’s one thing you could change about your journey what would it be?

A: I try not to delve there so I’d have to say nothing. I wouldn’t be me without all of it.

Q: Lastly, what is your top RMI industry tip to anyone trying to into make it into the industry?

A: It would definitely be, be you! No one can be a better you than you!

Get JOOX for free on DSTV – Chit Chat with Thabiet Allie!

Streaming music services have revolutionised the way people listen to music. DStv has chosen to partner with JOOX, South Africa’s favourite music app to put together the best 360 entertainment package in South Africa. DStv subscribers can now get JOOX for FREE for up to five family members.

We got wind about the news yesterday and decided to have a chit chat with Thabiet Allie, Chief Commercial Officer at Tencent Africa to find out more this exciting partnership!

Q: South Africa has seen a lot of global music streaming services entering our market in the last couple of years or so, how has JOOX positioned itself to compete and what is making it stand out from the rest?

A: Our people. That what makes us stand out from the rest. We have a local team plugged into the scene curating the best local and international sounds going down in the clubs and festivals of South Africa and working closely with the local and international labels to keep our ears to the ground.

Q: How has the music streaming service been received by the market since its initial launch?

A: Streaming is still new to a lot of people. Once you get into being able to get any song you want, quick and easy…. that’s it… your life has changed. It’s been a wonderful thing watching my friends and family get into it.

Q: Is there a particular reason why JOOX has specifically chosen to partner with DStv?

A: We’re both focused on understanding what our audiences want and making sure they get it. A large part of our popular music was also already tapped in to soundtracks for movies and series, so we were aligned with a lot of popular entertainment.

DStv obviously has a lot of music programming and JOOX is a natural partner to extend the experience so you could take the music with you and interact with the shows more.

Q: Can you share a bit more about the new JOOX VIP family package, how does that work?

A: All Compact, Compact Plus and Premium customers can immediately take up JOOX VIP for free and invite 4 other family members to subscribe, also at no cost. It’s so cool for customers.

If you are the DStv account holder, just get the app from your app store, if you haven’t got it already, then tap on the DStv banner at the top and follow the steps. You can then invite your family members.

Q: What other new developments can we expect from JOOX this coming year?

A: We’ve been collaborating on talent and music shows where you can experience more with your second screen interactions. You can also look forward to more action between your TV screen and the app. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the chit chat and all the best

The JOOX app is available for download on iOS and Android. For more information visit www.joox.co.za.
