Xolani Gwala has been announced as the presenter of Dragons’ Den South Africa, adding yet more impact to the hotly anticipated premiere of the global television smash-hit. Gwala joins Dragons’ Den South Africa’s formidable line-up of “dragons” when the show premiers on Tuesday, September 23rd at 19h00 on Mzansi Magic – Channel 161. He is currently the host of Talk Radio 702’s Afternoon Drive and will bring his wide-ranging knowledge of South African politics, economics and society to his role as Dragons’ Den South Africa presenter.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Dragons’ Den team,” says Gwala. “Entrepreneurship is something that I feel passionately about and it’s a subject that we frequently tackle on-air, from many different perspectives. “I can’t wait to see who succeeds in getting the chance to pitch their idea to our dragons and, of course, which business idea is convincing enough to secure funding or mentorship from some of the best business brains in the country.” Aspirant entrepreneurs will have to convince business giants Lebo Gunguluza, Vusi Thembekwayo, Polo Leteka Radebe, Gil Oved and Vinny Lingham that their idea is a sure-fire win on the show, providing for superb entertainment with an outcome that has the potential to positively affect South Africa’s economy. The presenter is, of course, no stranger to television. With nearly 20 years in broadcast journalism, in South Africa and abroad, Gwala has earned the respect of newsmakers and audiences across the country. His experience as a reporter, news anchor, producer, talk show host, news editor and current affairs programme presenter in both English and Zulu, on radio and television, make him an exceptionally versatile media professional.
