First of all I would like to wish everyone a happy 2013, wow what a year 2012 has been! We attended and covered a lot of parties last year and we thought it would only be fair if we did a top twelve exclusive zkhiphani.com hottest party’s list and lemme tell you now it was not an easy one. After hours of carefully going through the photos and reviews of every event we’ve been to we have come up with the following results…
12: Feather Awards
Sitting at number 12 has to be the 2012 feather awards, The Feather Awards 4th anniversary turned up the heat on Jo’burg ‘likers-of-things’ who gathered at The Venue at Melrose Arch to see who was going to take the trophy’s for individuals who the gay community have dubbed most fabulous. Kelly Khumalo stole the show after an alleged attack on a fan at the parking lot.
11: SA sports awards
The 2012 South African sports awards honoured our Sporting Greats, up-and-coming talent and the federations, schools and administrators that turn our youth into future sports stars. Chad le Clos was announced as Sports Star of the Year as voted for by the South African public.
10: 4th annual sixties party
The Main Sixties Party was hosted at the huge Mbombela Stadium and it was attended by a lot celebrities such as the now convicted rap star Molemo ‘Jub Jub‘ Maarohanye.
9: Back to the city
On Friday the 27th of April over 10 000 youth followers of hip hop flocked the Henry Nxumalo Street in downtown Johannesburg for the sixth annual “Back to the City” festival.
8: Redds redd door party
On the 8th December 2012 a thousand invited guests were taken on an unexpected journey as Redd’s hosted the Ultimate Redd Door Experience in the Maboneng Precinct in heart of Jozi. When the final ‘Redd Door’ opened, guests were introduced to an unforgettable street styled party, where musical geniuses Kwesta, House Hold Funk, DJ Zinhle as well as Naves and Sphe hit the decks.
7: Talib Kweli in SA
Talib Kweli performed a hot raw, cutting edge lyrical content for the true hip hop head set live on stage shortly after announcing the winners of the sprite uncontainable competition in front of thousands of fans who gathered outside a big stage at OST in the Jozi CBD.
6: YTKO party Bassline
YTKO DJ team from the underground scene namely; Just Mo, Miss Cosmo, Josi Chavѐ, ZanD and DJ Shimza killed it at at Bassline in Newtown as part of their YTKO tour featuring Julian Gomez and the infinite boys.
5: Channel O and VUZU youth day celebrations
Vuzu partnered with Channel O and managed to put together one of the supreme young at heart occurrences this year thus far, the affair which was hosted at Chaf Pozi: a restaurant situated at the base of the old FNB cooling towers.
4: Maftown Heights
Over the past three years Maftown Heights has been making a strong mark in the hip hop scene and has now solidified itself as the ultimate, must attend, annual hip hop event that celebrates the loudly and proudly South African born hip hop sub-genre known as Motswako and the town of its origin, Mafikeng!
3: Spring Fiesta
Soul Candi LIVE and Splakavellis teamed up again to create a dance floor memory for thousands of people that were in Boksburg, Wild Waters last year on the 22nd September. There were over 40 handpicked stars of the South African dance scene who performed on four stages.
2: Chris Brown in SA
RnB singer Chris Brown has stunned a lot of his critics last year December 2012 in Joburg by drawing in thousands of his South African fans to his Concert.
1: Channel O Music Awards
The 9th Annual Channel O Music Video Awards, brought to you by DStv and DStv Mobile, delivered 14 winners at a glitz-filled evening that more than made the case for Africa being the hottest thing on planet music right now.
