You are probably wondering why inspirational people are the way that they are. Is it the struggles that they endure, or maybe it’s the overwhelming feeling of sharing their perspective or could it rather be their sheer determination and courage? I believe that all the above and more determine who is inspirational. Today’s inspirational woman is muliti-award winning songstress Zonke Dikana.
Coming from a musical family, Zonke has cemented her place in the South African music scene as a remarkable force. She was born and raised in Port Elizabeth (Kwazakhele) in the Eastern Cape. Her father was the drummer for Black Slave and the Flamingo and her late stepmother, Anneline Malebo, sang for the infamous Joy outfit of Paradise Road fame.
Zonke is not only a vocalist but she is a songwriter, arranger and producer. She is one of South Africa’s biggest musicians to not only perform but also write and produce all her music. Zonke has been steadily working on her brand for the past couple of years and might we add that she is getting all of the elements right. She has once stated that she would not be a singer had it not been for her late father and acknowledges him as a huge influence in her music. She even wrote him a song, “Viva Legend” where she sings about him and all the lessons that he has taught her.
She has shared the stage with some of the most legendary artists of our time such as Lionel Richie. She is also an advocate for pulling up deserving talent and she demonstrated this by holding auditions for backing vocalists for her band.
In addition to being a mega successful musician, she is also a mother and has an amazing body and personal style. We also adore her statement short hair and pretty smile.
Her album Work of Heart, was released in September 2015, is a major success and has soulful hits such as S.O.S and Dear Child (So many ways). She has been nominated for Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album, Best Produced Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year at the 2016 SAMA awards which will be held in Durban on the 4th of June.
